Logo and the promotional slogan of the Commune of Luznio

Logotyp Luzina

On 8 June 2015 the jury composed of: Jarosław Wejer, Bartłomiej Formela, Małgorzata Kaliszewska and Marian Mielewczyk decided that the winner of the competition for creating a logo and promotional slogan is Jagoda Niemczyk from Gdańsk, who received a price amounting to PLN 2500. The award was presented during a special session of the Luzino Town Council on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the local government.

The competition for creating a logo and a promotional slogan was announced on 6 May 2015 and lasted until 29 May 2015. Its main objective was to design a logo and a promotional slogan for promotional, identification and correspondence purposes of the Commune of Luzino. From 1 July 2015 to 7 July 2015 the Internet users who also decided on the choice of the logo could vote on the Commune of Luzino’s Fanpage. Jury, while judging the works, took under consideration the top three ones chosen by the Internet users.

The logo in its form refers to the modern Kashubian region. It presents a distant view into Kashubia which shows its connection with the sea, informing at the same time that Luzino is not situated directly beside the sea. Modernity is expressed by the dynamics of composition, which aims to refer to the well-developing region and to “play” with the Kashubian design, which takes the modern shape eventually, but can still be associated with its original form, a flower. The logo’s colouring also relates to the Kashubian traditions, which are very important to the Commune of Luzino. Colours are inspired by the tones of the Kashubian embroidery. In the logo they have additional meanings, such as: fields, forests, the sky, the sun. Logo does not refer to only one locality situated within the territory of the Commune of Luzino. It has therefore a universal character and does not point any specific place in the Commune, which is rich in numerous legends and real stories.

The promotional slogan is related to the Logo’s inspiration (a flower, the Kashubian design). The slogan serves to characterise the Commune of Luzino as a place deeply founded on tradition, inextricably connected to the land and the pride of the region. It refers to the closeness to nature. It characterises the Commune of Luzino as a place “in bloom” in a variety of aspects.

The Commune of Luzino is situated in the northern part of the Pomeranian Voivodeship and is part of Wejherowo Poviat. It covers an area of 112 km2 on the territory of three physical-geographical units: The Baltic Coast, the Kashubian Lakeland and the Reda-Łeba Proglacial Stream Valley.

Through the area of the commune flow the following rivers: the Reda and the Łeba (in the north-western part of the commune), the Bolszewka, initially called Luzińska Struga (in the central-eastern part of the commune), the Gościna (in the north-eastern part of the commune).

The Commune is characterised by the varied landscape with numerous lowlands, valleys and hills. The highest hill is situated in Milwino – 201 m above sea level, and the lowest point in Zelewa is placed 35 m above sea level.

Almost as much as half of the surface area is covered by green pine and beech woods with nature protection areas, such as Robakowski Moczar and Torfowisko in Zielony Dwór – transition mires, Luziński Moczar – bogs and mosses, Źródła Jadwigi and Stara Łąka – damp meadows with rare species of swamp plants, Bielawa – a damp peat meadow with rare and protected species of plants, Wołowe Uroczysko – a marshy coniferous forest. There are many monuments of inanimate nature – erratic boulders. Through the commune there runs the national road No. 6 Gdańsk-Szczecin, which is also the international route E-28 Gdańsk-Berlin, and the railway line Gdańsk-Stargard Szczeciński.

The commune consists of 12 administrative units of commune (miejscowości sołeckie): Barłomino, Dąbrówka, Kębłowo, Kochanowo, Luzino, Milwino, Sychowo, Tępcz, Wyszecino, Zelewo and Zielnowo, which are inhabited in total by 14,805 residents. The commune is characterised by the high population growth, caused by a positive migration of people from bigger cities looking for peace, quiet and good transport connections to the workplace and school.

The seat of the commune authorities is the village Luzino, which is one of the biggest villages of a small town character in Pomeranian Voivodeship. Luzino is one of the most populated village in Poland with a population of 7299.

First traces of settlement in Luzino date back to the Stone and Bronze Ages and the influences of the Roman and Lusatian cultures, and the last traces are from the early and the late Middle Ages (the 7th century BC). All information about the settlement has been confirmed by the archaeological research and written up. 27 sites have been examined and there have been found: 23 burial grounds, 12 hamlets, 21 settlements, 140 traces of settlements, a hoard of coins and gords from the 9th century AD.

In the commune there are also food courts, hotels, charming tourist farms and guest rooms available for rent for the whole year.

Through the activity of the regional drama theatre, the band “Luzińskie Dzwoneczki” and the Farmer’s Wives Association tradition intermingles with modernity in the Commune. Thanks to the Festival of Kashubian Song, „Kaszëbsczé Spiéwë” which has taken place every year for 13 years, Luzino was nominated as “The Capital of the Kashubian Song”. Numerous outdoor events referring to the old Kashubian rituals are organised every year, including ‘sobótki’ (spring festival) and ‘dożynki’ (harvest festival, which always takes place on the last Sunday in August) with the spectacular procession through the streets of Luzino.
